2018 LMGA MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
Longshore Golf Club, 4/09/2018

After seeing the spectacular condition of the golf course last year, and watching the start of the Longshore bunker project, I am sure you are all anxious for the beginning of the 2018 season. The difference in the course conditions over the past two years has been impressive and with the completion this spring of the bunker reconstruction and green drainage work the course will reach an even higher standard.  Last year also saw the hiring of Todd Salamone as the new Golf Course Superintendent and Jon Janik as the new Golf Professional. Both have made significant impacts at Longshore, and with a year under their belts will be able to continue the many positive improvements. In particular, Jon Janik has some great plans for help with the LMGA events and introducing regular weekend mini-tournaments for anyone playing those days.

The LMGA Board has been meeting throughout the winter and planning for the upcoming year.  We expect another great season for all LMGA members. Your favorite tournaments are back and we have added a couple of new tournaments and improved a few others. We look forward to welcoming new participants, as well as those of you who have played in the past.  Thanks to the handicap system, everyone is good enough to play!  A couple of years ago, we instituted a tournament point system which allowed us to name a player of the year and at the same time allowed us to reduce handicaps in tournaments should any one player accumulate a certain number of points from placing in several tournaments. For more information please see www.popeofslope.com.

Other tournament changes included were moving the Baldwin Stroke Play Tournament to September, changing the Club Championship to two weekends from three, adding flights, and even adding The Onion, a one day member-member in October. These changes have been a big success and everyone who played in these tournaments enjoyed the camaraderie and competition. Also, we saw several changes to the Luke Pape Member Guest which were met with great acclaim.  The most significant was the Championship Shoot-Out, which pitted the winners of each flight on the 18th to decide the overall champions. We have a couple of new additions to the tournament schedule and we are working out the specifics of those events.

The Gilardi Kickoff Tournament and annual spring meeting is scheduled for Saturday April 21st where we will introduce the current Board members, get an update on season plans and initiatives, and hear from some town leaders and from the team on planned course improvements. For 2018, the annual dues will remain the same as last year. The Gilardi Kickoff tournament commences immediately following the breakfast and meeting and is a shotgun style ABCD Scramble. It’s a great way to kick off the golf year and to see old and new friends.

We look forward to a fun and exciting 2018 golf season.

Yours in service,

Peter Krieger

LMGA President
