Rutstein Brothers Win Dramatic Luke Pape LMGA Champion’s Shootout
Longshore Golf Club, 8/23/2017

The Longshore Men’s Golf Association’s annual Luke Pape Member-Guest tournament was held over the weekend with 46 teams battling through Friday’s inclement weather conditions to finish under sunny skies on Saturday.

With 96 golfers competing in the two-day, 45-hole event, brothers Greg and Matt Rutstein—pictured here with LMGA President & Tournament Director Peter Krieger—emerged to take home the Champion’s Shootout hardware.

Now in its third year, the Shootout is the popular finale where all eight flight-winning teams are pitted together in one sudden death, alternate-stroke playoff on Longshore’s 18th hole, which is adjusted to play as a par-3 in front of the entire tournament gallery.

The Brothers Rutstein outlasted the team of Justin Carmichael and David Sweedler on the third sudden death hole as younger Matt Rutstein hit the green three times in a row from the adjusted 180-yard tee shot, and made two par putts of ‘knee-knocker’ range from 4-5 feet. The Shootout-winning par putt was conceded by the ever-gentlemanly team of Carmichael-Sweedler after their own
45-foot par attempt ran long.

Many thanks to Tournament Director Krieger, to Longshore golf professionals Jon Janik and Chris Davies and the entire golf staff, to tournament participants, organizing committee and volunteers as well as event partners Charter Oak Agency, Peter’s Weston Market, Peter’s Spirit Shop, Winfield Street Italian Delicatessen, Imperial Headwear, Ahead USA and Titleist.
